Iran, an Islamic theocracy where a puppet government is dangled on strings to grab the attention of the populace whilst the true holders of power are religious fanatics who hide behind curtains, is on the verge of becoming nuclear armed. Israel, home of the Jews and the newest nation whose creation was bought in blood and violence and blood and violence has marred virtually every day of its short existence, is threatening to use whatever means necessary to ensure Iran doesn’t become nuclear armed. The USA, world leader and most religiously influenced developed nation, currently involved in two ongoing wars and is populated with citizens who have split apart into two rival political and social factions who utterly hate each other…need I say more?

Yes, I think you should say more...the US is not the most religiously influenced developed nation. Our political system didn't "split apart" into two rival factions, etc.
I don't believe primitive religion (distinctly separate from modern religion?) nor superstition occupies a very prominent position on the world stage. Nor do I believe it is interwoven into complex issues confronting different nations of the world.
I personally believe a stronger reliance and Integration of religion with political agendas would improve situations around the world today.
Have you considered the other side of that coin? What would life be like if we all abandoned our faith.
But you know, the truth is that whatever the outcome would be is unknown to us. It is conjecture. And to postulate that a negative outcome would be the result of orphaning religion would be a logical fallacy (slippery slope).
Who knows? Maybe you have a point. By the way, you ask very provocative questions. Some of them are extremely intelligent. I pay attention when I see your questions.
Yes, there is a possibility that some good might come from forsaking religion. But I think you can also acknowledge that a lot of positive things may also diminish if religion were forbidden. Lots of religious groups help feed the hungry, for example. Some secular groups do too, for that matter.
Good and bad in everything.
firstly, i love the assumption that religion poses a threat to the world. to be honest, ideas like justice, peace (as a goal not a break between wars), honesty, truth, morality, human dignity, the value of education, respect for the poor, integrity and so many other basic assumptions of western civilization were taken from Abrahamic religions. far from a threat, without Abrahamic religions there would be no civilization. anyway, i think that while Islam currently poses the greatest threat, Christianity has more potential for harm, seeing as it is based in nations that are among the world's most powerful, ie. USA, Russia, Brazil. China is also becoming more Christian and i wouldn't be surprised if Britain soon returned to Christianity (by which i mean within the next century). eventually, it would be more powerful, though in it's modern form it is unlikely that the power it wields will be used for harm. I don't see how Judaism poses a threat to the world. even if you think that the "persecution" of the Palestinians is religiously motivated, that isn't a threat to the whole world. Judaism's internal divisions and lack of numerical power will prevent us from being much of a threat to the world. (obviously i am biased here, but i think my arguments are valid.)
We tried it the atheist/ liberal/ Democrat way since 1968 and look what we have, a quick decline of Americas moral and ethical standards. Some people tried to slow the horrible effects down, but it didn't do a good enough job when arrogant people who think they are a god went on a spree screwing up everything.
You attempt to blame religions for everything when anarchy and godlessness has had far worse results. Every nation that has totally lost God or any form of some organized faith has been destroyed. America is losing God, and now look whats going on.
Yes there were problems that the Faith had to fix and they did fix themselves. False teachers that tried to hold on to slavery were overthrown by ministers who stated that All men are the children of God and slavery is an abomination. People tried to use some twisted scripture that there is a difference in races and inferiority's. True Christian ministers fought off these fanatics and still fight new ring leaders of this corruption still. Believe it or still cling to your atheist hate propaganda about it but Catholic Church members did find out the world was round like the Bible stated when it said the earth is like a sphere or ball that hangs on nothing. They also found that the earth revolves around the sun. Galileo was part of the Church as well, his only written crime was when he overstepped his boundaries by trying to translate the Bible without going through the proper channels or getting the training to get to the position of interpretation. His trials were based mostly off of that. But lets ignore the difference between true Christians and people who just called themselves Christian to get into some position of power. There are even ministers today who do not view homosexuals as the enemy and fight against false ministers that show such ugly hatred against them. Christians fixed their own problems and will continue to do so without the interference from you and your ilk that has nothing better to do but make up lies about the faith and spread rumors.
Thank you, thank you for being another tool in the atheist propaganda to make the downfall of civilization that much closer.
Yeah give me your troll letters, your thumbs down, your edits to me and baw, I.M. me and write hate speeches against me all you like. There is nothing you can say or do that I haven't already heard of seen.
Oh don't pretend you don't hate conservatives! You do! And your an atheist, so that problem isn't religously caused.

if you'll notice, Ireland is number two, and several other developed nations are on the top ten most religous list, while the US isn't.
Stop using false logic and maybe you'll get a serious answer....
There's self-righteousness and madness backed up by false religion, and there's the universal and truest religion of compassion and love. The violence between power groups is motivated by the former.
There already is and has always been great danger from religion. It is the combination with massively destructive modern technology that makes this an intolerable situation.
I would say the biggest fear I have about religion is people think that God is going to bail them out from things like war, poverty, and the biggest threat, climate change.
No. We will be in one hell of mess if we don't start focusing on population control and the environment though.
It's going to be a fun millennium!
