If a person is told that they are naturally a sinful creature who is inevitably going to make the wrong choices because they have this inherently sinful nature, this is not really going to make them self reliant, right? It’s going to make them too scared to trust their own judgment and this is just what the leaders of Christian organizations want, right? They want sheep, don’t they? They want mindless cattle who spend their days grazing and then give their milk, their fleece and their offspring to the church leaders, right?

Nope. We are trained from re-birth by the Holy Spirit to rely on Him.
While I'm sure that there are those Christians who don't attempt to question their beliefs, I'm not one of them. Even more, I've probably questioned my beliefs far more thoroughly than most atheists and other skeptics have questioned theirs. The reason I remain a Christian is because the questions I have about Christianity are far less important and fundamental than the questions I have about any other worldview, including the atheistic one.

As a Christian, I was never taught this. What I was taught that was even when we do make the right decision, it is somewhat tainted by sin. That is, that we can do the right thing, but when we do, it is usually for the wrong reason- for example, for personal glory.
"It’s going to make them too scared to trust their own judgment...."
Eventually I have to trust my own judgment on something, even if it's only trusting my judgment on who's judgment I'm going to trust. In other words, there's no escaping trusting my own judgment. Others can only advise me. In the end, I'm still left with making the decision of what I should do.
i think of of it as somebody describing united statesa., yet in hassle-free terms from the perspective of the place they stay. If i don't settle for the reality that there is not snow on the floor in January, in each and everything of the country, then i will't appropriately describe united statesa.. God is deep and huge. there is plenty to him. he's mysterious in many procedures. some persons have a bigger information in some aspects then others, and vice verse. that's gloomy as quickly as we initiate putting highway blocks up between denominations, for diverse the flaws we do - I heard that for the period of the 70's, a church cut up over a portray of Adam and Eve. a million/2 concept they could have navels, the different did not. Paul lays out some policies for church homes, that he thinks make sturdy experience. some trust Paul on each and every factor, some do not.
Yeah more or less, if you start asking almost any given Christian why they believe in God they are ultimately going to tell you that they don't need proof and they put all their trust in God (that last part is read: they put all their faith in the Church). And the Church teaches their flock that they will make bad decisions in their lives but they should always trust the Church to help make it right.
We're all naturally sinful. That is not a news flash.
Im not a christian, but a believer.
I was "trained" from birth to think with my own head, and to make my own decisions and judgments, but for them to be according to GOD's will. I have done malicious sins, and still sin to this day, but I better myself each day as well, and I am strong in faith and love.
Just as much as an atheist, if not more, I was raised to be a self-thinker, to be open minded.
No.
Scripture teaches both to learn from God, develop our own wisdom, AND TO ALSO listen to people that have wisdom and experience. Because we are going to b in that position when we get older and be needed by other generations for that experience and wisdom.
Its not good to ignore wise people nor God. It sounds like "trusting in own judgment" means more like "living your own way" which brings about Gods disfavor.
No. I grew up a Christian (only became one later on in life though-a.k.a received the holy spirit) and I disagree on a lot Church wise, I guess the problem comes from the fact it is run by humans Just as flawed and some use power in the church to twist things, others are quick to please society instead of God :p. I only follow the Bible, God's word. And if you read the Bible and UNDERSTAND it you'll see churches are very different from what it should be.
Mind you I've never met anyone that completely follows what a priest says, I mean we can think for ourselves. Oh wait, I forgot ,everyone else sees us as brainless robots who, according to others thinks of themselves as pure and follow 'junk' and can't fend for ourselves! My bad.
Wrong. Who said salvation had anything to do with organized religion, or with a church leader.. Our own judgment is a sinful one. God has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us through the world of satan. We are not blind cattle, we are enlightened by the Lord and see how blind the world really is.
what church did you go to?
My pastor says to avoid harry Potter, most in my church still watch it.
My Pastor says to watch the "R" movies most still watch the violence and full frontal nudity.
I could go on and on, seems they don't listen to the pastor too much compared to mormons who are just robots,
Some are. But most just simply accept as it's the "norm". Only when they outright question others about the belief do they get that "sin" talk.
No one is a Christian from birth, Desiree.
