It's possible; animals are more aware of the subtle cues in nature that suggest that something is wrong. Elephants in the area of the December '04 tsunami could feel the vibrations in the ground that resulted from the deep-ocean earthquake, and fled inland (some taking their hapless and confused riders with them) away from the impending wave.
Not spiritual at all. But perhaps they sensed the changes in the earth, and so went down to San Deigo to see what was going to shake the most-- there was an earthquake there today, fairly substantial.

We had a 5.8 today down south. Mexico area, but my brother felt it in San Diego. Who knows, animals act a bit different when earthquakes are coming.
Maybe some sharks moved into the area.
I thought it was because of all the deisel fuel and mercury in the water
I guess you didn't pay attention to the WHOLE report. They went out for FOOD and will be back, as they always do.
