Because atheists are open to new ideas - religious people have a closed perspective on things, caused by their mostly square ideology that everything has to do with God and anything that has a logical explanation behind it (anything that doesn't have to do with God) is suddenly invalid.
It's the willingness to understand the real background of what has caused a variety of happenings and not just presume a higher entity snapped his fingers and made them happen just out of the blue.
Because religion is based on faith, which is NOT based on logic or reason—commonly known as "sense."
But anything that is based on reason and logic—aka things that make sense—will, by nature, seem more sensible. And atheism is just that.
That doesn't mean religion is wrong (although some people's versions of religion obviously are), because there's no rule that says the world has to make sense. But it may be why atheism makes more sense than religion.
Another possible reason is that the nonsensical religion you're comparing atheism to (I assume) isn't really religion—it's just nonsense and should be called such. But in contrast to atheism or even more rational views of religion, of course anything would make more sense than today's nonsensical version of Christianity, at least.
We love you still, and it is because your mind is limited in its thinking. So you can not expand it to more. So when you know so little (or have a limited mind) you think it makes more sense.
Can there be more out there then we know of? of course there can be.
Can there be things we can not begin to understand? of course there can be.
So why can not there be God that fits these things? There can be and is.
Tell me this in an email to me:
Why is this:
Science says nothing can come from nothing.
Yet they teach the big bang as there was nothing and this nothing reacted with nothing and made something. How can this be? It can not be, something has to make something.
Science says one thing and teaches another.
At least we believe nothing can create nothing. And God (being something) created creation (being something as well). Our teaching does not say one thing, yet teach another.
I am confident in my beliefs even more since science teaches this.
It makes sense to US because WE happen to be atheists. Just as Hinduism makes the most sense to a Hindu, Buddhism makes the most sense to a Buddhist, etc.
Speaking as an atheist, the usual religious explanations of suffering and evil in the world are very complicated: God is just testing us. Or: God is allowing it to preserve our free will. Or: It is all the result of our sin.
Whereas the atheist solution is simply "Sh*t happens".
If you're atheist, then you think of all the questions from that point of view.
It's the same old "same old":
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
As a person of faith, atheism just makes me very sad for the unfortunate caught in those lies -- no offense intended, but to me it's basically self-deceit.
And here come all the kiddies with their thumbs-downs.

it is Logistics, and sciences uses Logic. Therefore appealing to ones mind.
Religion on the other hand appeals to ones heart.

bless you.
When you view something from a basis of reality, it tends to make more sense than when you pretend it's all just the equivalent of a comic book story.

with an open mind
things make sense from any perspective
the closed mind finds sense of things it already knows
It's simpler.

Knock yourself out, kiddies!!
Because theism was not created to make sense.
It was created as a political tool.
That is all it has ever been used for. EVER.
The good things that come from it are merely self-sustaining PR, the bad things its real aims.
If you become regenerated, the atheist perspective won't make sense anymore, because you'll know God exists in your spirit.
