What’s a good bible verse I can use to scare the crap out of my kids?
I’m sick of this all this effort I have to go through explaining stuff to them. I just want them to think that if they don’t do as they’re told, something bad will happen to them. That’s all I ask…

I have a teen aged grandson living with me.We talk from time to time about God and things. I was telling him how I believe that what goes around comes around. He said to me, yeah, he believed that. He was with a friend, and that friend entered another friends house when nobody was there. That friend came out with 2 tins of pop, well some neighbor had called the police in the meantime. I think the kid had something else, I forget now. Anyway, the 2 of them had to go to court. My grandson skateboards, about a week before their court date, he fell and broke his leg.He had to hobble into court on crutches, and he had to do some community work. He was convinced that God paid him back for being at that house with the kid who stole something, so I let him go on believing that. Can't hurt anything :).. a couple years ago, he was riding on a bicycle, and a car coming out of a gas station hit him and his foot went around the wheel of the car and his shoe got wedged in but his foot came loose. At that time he was experimenting with drugs. So that shook him up pretty bad, and he believes that God was paying him back for doing drugs, he hasn't touched the drugs since.He told me that was his 'wake up call'. I will continue to let him believe that God is thumping him for doing stuff he should not be doing. I can't prove if God is doing it or not so I am not deceiving him. I know this don't help you much with your kids, but maybe you can somehow get an idea from it, at least I hope you can, if not, then just put it down to entertaining :)
Why not try the reverse and show them what those that listen to God's Word have to look forward to. ( Isaiah 11:6-9 )

It would prove irritating if you did not consistently teach your young ones about their Creator, and maintain the same standards yourself. Set the example, listen first to them, they will then learn to listen to you.
Desiree! You can't scare your children into obedience. Only their love for you will motivate them to obey you from the heart. It is the same with our heavenly father. God does NOT try to scare us into loving him. Instead he highlights the positive, like Isaiah 48:17-19. For instance at Ephesians 6:1-3 the Bible says: "Children, be obedient to your parents in union with the Lord, for this is righteous: “Honor your father and your mother”; which is the first command with a promise: “That it may go well with you and you may endure a long time on the earth.”
Explainations, which, I know, you hate, take time and effort. But if you want to be a good parent, you MUST take that time to explain everything to them. They depend on you to learn their values, good habits, respect. Show them your love and their love for you will move them to obey you. Hint: If they fuss about having to do the things you want, that's good. It means they are adjusting to your way of doing things. Everyone fusses about change. So don't worry to much about the resistance, as worrisome as it is, just trudge on and don't give up. You may just raise good, kind, respectful children. Good luck!

I know that the Bible could be a pretty scary book, but don't you think that using something as sacred as the Bible is impeding on other people's beliefs? I don't think that "scaring" them will help neither you nor your children, and it also shows poor parenting. Explaining things to them is one of the natural parts of being a parent. If you don't realize this basic fact, then why the heck did you become a parent.
