Are there any Trust funds available that can help?
He is based in the UK and needs to travel to the USA in order for the Operation to take place. The Operations also needs to be completed in the next 5 weeks as there will be no treatment available after this time. This is because the child will be too old to have the surgery and it needs to be completed in this window of opportunity
Update:The operation can be done here using a different method to the one on offer in the US. Here they use retinal grafts but the success rate is only 40%; In the USA they use synthetic material as a substitute but have 100% success. The reason it is time sensitive is because if the part of the brain involving sight doesn't get stimulated by 8weeks it will become redundant and the technology is not available to reverse this.

the RNIB can help if you contact them.
I also have major eye problems and had an unusual accident involving a pencil at 10 years old, i was referred to Mr Moore at Addenbrookes as he is a world authority on eye surgery, if the operation can be done then he can do it, so ask your friend to request a referral to him (he performed my most recent operation in 30 minutes, and i was told it would normally be 5 hours).
EDIT: i was just speaking to my sister, who is an optometrist (she chose the career out of fascination for my condition) and she tells me that Addenbrookes is actually the most advanced hospital in the world for eye surgery and that America would be a useless expense if you can get better treatment in Cambridge.
also, eye operations can be time sensetive as i had to wait till 18 for prosthetics to be implanted as i had to stop growing, but "too old for surgery" is a bit of an oxymoron.
It can be done successfully in five weeks time but not 5 weeks and one day? Sounds like a scam to me I'm afraid.
Contact the national press and offer them proof, they will gladly run your story if true and makes them seem more compassionate and will help sell their papers.
Phone local radio stations and ask for them to ask for donations on the air. Amazing things have happened through this !!
Ask your friend to take his son to the nearest hospital and get the doctor to recommend further treatments.
Go to the media with the story and ask for help from the public. Im sure people will help if they know about it.
Hold a fundraiser benefit (sort of like a social). Sell tickets, have silent auctions, etc.
why bother asking this question without more proven details? You are either trolling or trying to scam big time
you could throw a charity event... 3 weeks though... maybe a raffle organized through donations and radio??
I don't believe you. There is no condition out there which is that time-sensitive.
If this is really true, I'm sure it has been all over the newspapers. Links, please.
