Im a meat eater. I was raised by my father mostly on cheeseburgers.. Which is a bit odd since my favorite animal is a cow.. Any who.. I don't want to buy meat that has been mistreated.. I thought of organic, but I have also read that many organic farms treat the animals the same, but just don't give them hormones. Where can I find a meat raised on a nice farm and killed ,not tortured???
Update:Peter- Your a ding wad.. Go to politics:)

Visit free range organic farms and actually meet the farmers and talk to them. You can usually have a tour as well. That's how I choose my meat sources.
that all depends on what you mean by tortured.
beef cattle is raised on ranches outdoors in pastures until it is of a certain age. Then they are sold and put into feedlots(confined outdoor places) and fed very well for a few months to fatten. They are then moved to slaughter houses and killed.
torture is hardly a part of any of that and is not financially efficient way to raise beef.
They generally are not mistreated, ie beaten, starved, kept from water and food, etc. No profit in that at all.
Yes they are castrated and innoculated against disease and often are given growth hormones though.
As a farmer, I can tell you that animals raised for food are not mis-treated. There is a tremendous amount of hooey blathered about that is totally wrong. They are coddled and fed the very best. the reason is simple. Mistreated animals don't do well at all.
The food animal business is very cruel. If your going to continue to eat meat I can only suggest buying local, from farmers who truly love their animals. Good luck! Try simplygoodandtasty.com
Hmmmm. Good question. But then, the US tortures Afghans and Iraqis and I bet you don't really care.
