Don't let your size determine the type of guitar you get. You might like a jumbo guitar, but you might not like the way it sounds and feels. Most "traditional" acoustics are a dreadnought. You really have to play them and see how they feel and sound though. You're right to look for a solid wood top, but you're not likely to get solid back and sides at that price. The top is the most important to the tone though.
This is a nice solid top guitar well below your budget, so you can spend the extra on lessons.
A Walden D550 is also a great option in your price range if you're not interested in Yamaha, although I personally think Yamaha makes great acoustic guitars for the money.
Crafter also makes nice guitars but they're a bit pricier and you won't find a good solid top one in your price range unless you find a used one.
There are a lot of options though, so you should go to a music store and try out various guitars to get an idea what size you like and what sounds good to you in your price range.
