If a Christian proselytizes then there kind of adding a glimmer of hope that someday you'll see the deceased again which is good for grieving family. Whereas an atheist is unable to add that same hope. Dude......your worm food just doesn't help the family move past their loss. Either way funerals should only be done with copious amounts of alcoholic beverages and loud fast music that way nobody worries about the guy rotting in the box up front.
Christians who proselytize at funerals are out of line. An atheist who took the bait and responded would also be out of line. Funerals are not an appropriate place for badgering others with ones own beliefs, whether Christian or atheist.
With the exception of my father-in-law (mentioned previously), I've never known an atheist to have a formal funeral. Most were simply cremated with no service.
I can't believe someone said they've never heard an Atheist say something comforting at a funeral. They probably have, they just don't know it.
Anyways, we can talk about Atheism. Very easily: "____ _____ is now resting in peace, no longer burdened by the _____ of life, and leaves behind his/her memories, where he/she will live for eternity."
On another note, wouldn't any secular funeral be an Atheist funeral?
As far as I know, they don't talk about it...they just do whatever according to it. If the deceased wants anything in particular said or done, they need to make sure that's handled BEFORE they die.
They can say they want such n such said/done but whoever makes the funeral arrangements has the final say...if that person is an atheist, they could proselytize about whatever they want...
"Poor baby we won't see him ever again" No offense but having a funeral without having hope after life. Its like burying a pet enjoyed your time with them while they lived but you just bury them and know you not going to see them EVER. Again. But Im glad there is more than death. I know the person may end up in heaven or hell.

Anyone can say anything at a funeral. If the deceased was an atheist, talk about who they were as a person.
Theyll Probualy say

I have no idea what this whine is about. If the funeral is for a Christian they get a Christian service.
If it's an athiest funeral they can, otherwise your just starting arguments while people are grieving, which is kind of a di.ck move. No offense.
Atheist can talk about whatever they want at funerals. There isn't a "funeral" police.
Or we can talk about math at funerals, how fun would that be? Here ill start
Man I miss Jack, he was always such an awesome partial derviative...
