Do you think soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are “keeping us safe” from Muslim terrorists?
I hear that claim so often. Just then, I heard the Whitehouse press guy complaining about the recent Wikileaks publication of classified military documents. He claimed this was putting soldiers who are “keeping us safe” at risk. Are they keeping us safe? Do these primitive religious apes represent a threat to us in this post 9/11 hyper security conscious world? If so then wouldn’t the soldiers do a better job at home instead of in foreign countries where they are just perpetuating the hatred these savages have for the West?

Those sons of Ishmael are hunters and the most dangerous game is an American soldier. So then if American soldiers go to the danger zone then they represent the hunted where they are, and not on their home soil.
If our soldiers were not there to satisfy the blood lust of those people then, yes we would be in more danger here at home. They die for us. Instead of us.
Over 100,000 civilians have been killed in Iraq. I'd like someone to point out how many Al Qaeda terrorists have been captured or killed in comparison to that. They aren't in wheelchairs without passports. Why would they all stick around for a war? If there was lots of terrorists there, they just moved on to Malaysia, Pakistan, or Syria, or one of the hundreds of other countries they have operations in. More defense is needed over here, not over there. We are spending over $200 million a day in Iraq alone, yet airport security can't even keep shoe bombers from the UK and places like Nigeria off our planes. We've obviously allocated our resources into the wrong places. Meanwhile, we've affected over 100,000 families, which equals millions of people who have lost someone as a result of this war. What do you think these kids are going to think as they grow up in all that destruction with family members killed? We just created an entire generation of future terrorists who will be easily recruited into Al Qaeda.

You ask, "Do these primitive religious apes represent a threat to us...", and the answer is yes, they do. The US invasion of Afghanistan has destroyed all of their strongholds and killed the great majority of their ranks*. So yes, it would be appropriate to say that they are “keeping us safe”.
But my question is "why doesn't wikileaks leak any information useful to the US war effort? Why do they only leak information harmful to it?

how old are you child? What you are suggesting would be like suggesting to Franklin D Roosevlet to bring all the troops home after Pearl Harbor to keep us safe? Don't you understand that this is a Darwinian struggle? If you bring our troops home--would you prefer the house to house fighting be done on your block? They will hate us anyway--we have a choice between our way of life and the way of life they wish to impose upon the world by force. The only choice is to kill them before they kill us.. Very simple--hard to comprehed for people who think that if we go home they'll leave us alone. Won't happen--you'll just have the mortar rounds and artillery going off on your block around your house by people who want you to live the way they want you to.

True, soldiers (it seems) are really protecting corporate interests which argue-ably helps to keep our economy afloat. It's quite the stretch to say they're "keeping us safe" though.
