The writer of this article http://baltimorechronicle.com/2007/052107Parry.sht... can see a parallel and after I read it, I can sort of see one too. The thing is, I know well that the media loves to stir up fear in its audience, fear keeps the consumers consuming of course, and as an atheist, I do feel a little less confident after reading it. But is this a skillful writer just trying to stir up fear for a secular audience?

It was a very good article, but I don't see the parallel with the Nazis. Comparing someone to a Nazi is a very strong charge. As someone who lost many family members in the Nazi concentration camps, I don't use the word lightly.
This is what Ezekiel 13 says that leaders do in society when it is corrupt:
"Because they lead my people astray, saying, "Peace," when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash..."
Christians are persecuted, but then the Bible says that they would be. It's part of the belief system to suffer with Christ for the sake of genuine love - the kind that gives food to the hungry without thinking of personal comments against the poor.
Asking not to be persecuted so much is not the answer, from the theological basis that I'm coming from. Philippians 2:14-16 says not to complain or argue. Being Christian means being edifying for fellow believers on account of the scripture, which is different from using political measures. Whatever is good for the rest of the population is going to be good for Christians too, if the BIble actually represents morality that works, rather than simply being the textbook for one of many belief systems.
you added the comment of nazi being similar to christians. you said "as an atheist, I do feel a little less confident after reading it".
i feel that atheists like you are like the evil politicians who would condemn their opponents openly, and glorify themselves. "as a christian, i do feel a little less confident after hearing such words from an atheist".
would you prefer i make such sweeping statements? if you wouldn't, neither would i.
