I’ve been on it a few years back, but I need some now for the next few months after losing my job and the sudden passing of a friend within just a few weeks each other. The Xanax/Alprazolam really helped me when I was going through something a few years back, but my PCP who I’ve been with 2 years won’t prescribe any anti anxiety like Valium, Xanax, etc. I feel we have a good relationship (pt to dr). I said it could be a low dose and it’s just temporary, but sadly he wouldn’t budge. Is this common? Do urgent care RX controlled substances?

Unfortunately this is a problem that is not only unique to you. Any opiates, opoids, controlled substances, narcotics, they keep very tight controls on. There have been new studies that have come to the surface about various issues, and this is why they don't recommend continual use of it. What you haven't told us, I know that you have used it a few years back, but how much did you use it? How many refills did you get? If you have gotten a lot of refills chances are, is that he is not willing to go down that path again. Have you learned about coping skills that can help you get through issues like this such as deep breathing, yoga, meditation, walking in nature, talking about it and stuff like that? Maybe he is looking at you learning how to develop some coping skills so that you don't always have to rely on pills and medications. Just a thought.
In my UC we do not re controlled meds excep in very strict instances, like broken bones. Pills are not coping mechanisms.
Doctors will rarely prescribed an addictive medication that you once had and that you want back they are aware of the addictive potential and they don't want any part of that
