Could it have anything to do with being discouraged from seeking knowledge in general, and being exposed to different views in particular?
Update:Occulty, I think that in almost any other group you could find at least some individuals that are intellectually honest. Maybe I am giving them too much credit.

They have very strong social pressure to conform, which I think does not pertain in many of the more usual christian denominations to the same degree, because of the internal hot house and sanctions regime.
Like they are kept in their little group and discouraged from any mixing, given a lot of teaching to the point where it can be almost brainwashing, pressurized into the program, and are threatened with disfellowshipping if they leave, which can mean being totally rejected and ignored and not spoken to by their family.
Of course one might feel bad leaving a standard church as one might have self-condemning thoughts about eternal judegment, and maybe be looked down on a bit for doing so, but one would be unlikely to be so fearsomely cut off and would not feel so disorientated, since one would have had outside relationships already.
The primary problem with them, and other Christian denominations, is their blind acceptance of the bible as truth. Basically, you have a book that was quite literally compiled arbitrarily, and they are convinced that it is consistent and harmonizes perfectly. Obscure passages are twisted to fit their particular doctrine, and they use it to justify any changes in their doctrine.
Ask them to prove that everything written in the bible is true starting with genesis. They won't do it. They won't even try because they are afraid of challenging their own faith.
But the bible is the root of their problems, followed by their "theocratic" organization.
Let's see, there are just about 8 millions JW'S. So I'm assuming that from your question or statement that you personally know each ones background, education, and mind set, ect. Very good for you.
Jehovah's Witnesses come from many backgrounds, many different prior beliefs, many former customs, nationalism, some were patriotic to their country, thieves, drug users, even murders have become Jehovah's Witnesses. government officials, Highly educated, scholars, teachers, doctors, lawyers, policeman, soldiers, former atheist, Buddhist, Islam, Zulu etc.
What knowledge are you talking about?
Which group of biblical literalists admits that their beliefs are anything other than facts? I think you're unnecessarily singling out JW's here.
I am not an apologist for JWs but you are really slime. This Fideism and you know it. But Faith by definition is NOT Fideism. I usually avoid you because of your immoral+stupid combination but this is just plain dishonest of you.
Scriptural beliefs?
whatever our beliefs, they define whom we are as a person
