It's already happening, and it's because such values are gaining a hold, particularly amongst the younger generations, that the old conservatives turn to violence (Islamism) as a futile attempt to 'hold back the tide'.

Travel, communications and the free exchange of ideas are the main reasons it's happening, so the more of that the better.

Religion is a scapegoat for attacks and war. It won't stop and cannot 'cure' it. Islam is not a very violent religion, just used as an excuse.
