"Don't worry, it won't be for long because Jesus is coming back soon."
How soon is "soon"? A week? A month? A year? A decade? A century?
What does it mean if the "soon" period passes without Jesus coming back?
And perhaps more importantly, how was it determined that "Jesus is coming back soon"?
Update:So when a Christian says "soon", it could mean in ten million years?

Well, it's supposed to happen before the last of one of the generations he was speaking to per-crucifixion (as per the Bible, anyway) was still alive, so it must be "soon" indeed. There have got to be some ridiculously old people out there, if this is the case, or as a ghetto fundie might say, "Methuselah aint got nothin on dem".
As far as the actual definition of soon, what they really mean is within 0 to infinity time units, with major emphasis on infinity (i.e. never). For practical purposes, believers should confine their predictions of the return until after they'll certainly be dead, lest they somehow face backlash for being a false prophet or something (while still managing to turn a profit, of course).
As for how it was determined, well... someone said it was the case, so that's pretty reliable, right? At least as reliable as virtually everyone reading this having actually won the Nigerian lottery without ever having purchased a ticket at least once in their lives.
Soon means that it could happen any moment. It is not based on a length of time. It also means that we should be ready for Jesus' return and live our lives as if He is coming today.
"quickly" is like "the next day". this is a delusion. It by no skill easily arrives. If i ask somebody while something is gonna ensue and that they are asserting 'the next day' and then i ask 24 hours later, "Is it the next day yet?" the respond is not any. this is the comparable with 'quickly'
