I agree with the point Mark Twain was making. He would of course technically be one by believing in himself. However, the point is that Christians themselves are often not Christians. One can label themselves a Christian, but that doesn't mean they're doing what is required to truly earn the name.
The perception is that Christians act how they want, and not how Jesus commanded them to- therefore they're pseudo-Christians. If Jesus were physically here, He wouldn't be the commonly perceived pseudo-Christian Mr. Twain was alluding to as having hi-jacked the persona of "Christian."
In other words he wouldn't be a pushy or upity person who looked down their nose on others. We Christians certainly aren't all like that, but those who are stick out and give us a bad name- and scare people away instead of winning souls for God.
If Christ were here now there is one thing He would not be - an Atheist. RH. Jesus would be the perfect Christian. After all, He is Christianity. Just because Christians fail to live up to a perfect Jesus doesn't mean there is something wrong with Christianity. By the way, Christianity is Jewish in faith, not Gentile.
Mark Twain was an atheist I think his only concept of Christianity was tent shows and hell raising preachers in the South.
Jesus, when He returns, will come in the glory of God to judge all men of all faiths Jewish, Christian, Moslem, tribal, pagan it will be all encompassing.
He is right he wouldn't be! He was Jewish and so wouldn't believe in any of christian beliefs! He would never have said he was god or that he would die for peoples sins either since that goes against Judaism, his religion (if he actually existed). If he was here today he'd learn about christianity and think what on earth, I never said or did that!
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. (ie he is not Christian).
Jesus Christ does have the Spirit of God/Christ in him so technically he is a Christian.
Christ is here now. There would not be, nor is there a reason for Christ to join any organization that is committed to following him. He is the head of the church.

Well when Christ came here last time it led to the formation of a new religion so if he turned up again I guess the same thing would happen.
