Well, if there is no way to prove a person is in the line of David, how can the prophecies be fulfilled? Who can prove their lineage goes back to David or can produce David's DNA?
And if Elijah did come back, would he be better received than the last time he made his entrance? The age of the prophets is over and no one hears the Spirit of God anymore. How would this prophet be received today if the first time we heard him speak was to say, "It is not going to rain again until I say it is?"
What good is a list if he can't meet all the list?
List them? I think someone else has a complete list, but I know that certain passages that Christians like to attribute to "Jesus", are not in fact about Jesus at all and speaks of historical fact rather than an impending man-god. (Isaiah specifically).
The moshiach has a set of guidelines, one of which that he will bring peace within his lifetime, not two lifetimes.
