So I've used punky dyes and store brAnds but now I'm looking for something more. I've had my hair a million different colors and I noticed that last time I dyed it it only lasted a week or so and I used a Sally brand product. I want something that I only have to do keep up once a month. I hear things about splat, special effects , and manic panic but never have used them. I'm more considering it now because I wana have black faded to teal but are these dyes still good or is there a special brand that does neon colors better ,longer? I've heard of magiccontrast but only seen it in red can u order other colors ?

One of the best kept secrets for this kind of tip dying is the non-toxic silk dye used to color silk, feathers, and fur. If you are not putting it on your scalp, you can get virtually any color you can imagine, and the colors dye fast and strong, with very little wash-out.
I use these dyes weekly as a costumer and I've dyed extension hair and bleached tips with WAY better success than the bottle dyes. For example, the peacock blue turns a white silk ribbon deep navy peacock blue in less than 5 minutes, and you cannot wash it out without bleach, no matter how often you wash. Hair is basically the same structure as silk.
If you want it to be more jelly like, like bottle dye, you can add a food-safe thickener to the dye to jelly it up (http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/2008-AA.shtm... order the first one on the list, High Viscosity for Coton. You'll only need a tiny amount, or you can buy Xanthan gum in most health food stores. Both are powders that thickens liquids.
It is called "acid" dye because you add a tiny bit of vinegar or lemon juice to the dye bath to make the color penetrate better, but it's not a "burn you, acid". You only need hot tap water, the dye powder, and a splash of vinegar. Mix colors to get what you want, and make sure you do a test on a bit of clipped hair (or buy a little silk form the same site to test on) to make sure the color won't be too dark for your liking. If it's too dark, cut the dye powder by half and test again.
