The universe was not "created", from "nothing" or otherwise.
Time is a dimension contingent upon the universe. Claiming that the universe "began to exist" necessarily implies that there was some point in time that the universe *didn't* exist, and then another, later point, that it did. This notion is patently absurd if you take the time to understand the full nature and implications of time.
The timeline begins at Time Zero, the singularity. There was no "before" this, which means that the universe was not "created", and there has never been any point in time that the universe didn't exist.
Ok this is going to be complex and a little hard to understand. It was not "who" by the way....
First off lets find the shape of the universe
Now how would we find the shape of the universe?By the density because it also explains the geometry.
If the density of the universe exceeds the critical density, then the geometry of space is closed and positively curved like the surface of a sphere. This implies that initially parallel photon paths converge slowly, eventually cross, and return back to their starting point (if the universe lasts long enough). If the density of the universe is less than the critical density, then the geometry of space is open (infinite), and negatively curved like the surface of a saddle. If the density of the universe exactly equals the critical density, then the geometry of the universe is flat like a sheet of paper, and infinite in extent.
The big bang predicts that the universe is flat. Now we must prove this
The WMAP spacecraft can measure the basic parameters of the Big Bang theory including the geometry of the universe. If the universe were flat, the brightest microwave background fluctuations (or "spots") would be about one degree across. If the universe were open, the spots would be less than one degree across. If the universe were closed, the brightest spots would be greater than one degree across.
Recent measurements (c. 2001) by a number of ground-based and balloon-based experiments, including MAT/TOCO, Boomerang, Maxima, and DASI, have shown that the brightest spots are about 1 degree across. Thus the universe was known to be flat to within about 15% accuracy prior to the WMAP results. WMAP has confirmed this result with very high accuracy and precision. We now know that the universe is flat with only a 0.5% margin of error.
Now this will blow your mind.In the inflationary theory, matter, antimatter, and photons were produced by the energy of the false vacuum, which was released following the phase transition. All of these particles consist of positive energy. This energy, however, is exactly balanced by the negative gravitational energy of everything pulling on everything else. In other words, the total energy of the universe is zero!
Since the universe has zero total energy it can come from NOTHING!!Yes something can come from nothing. The law of conservation of mass + first law of thermodynamics is only to a closed system.

Time, like space, is a product of the Big Bang. That means there is no "before" the universe or "outside" of space. That, in turn, means no causal question can be meaningfully asked about te universe, since a cause must come before an effect.

Who told you it was "from nothing"?
Find them and tell them they are idiots.

The Universe might have began then, but there is no indication the energy began then. Where do you come up with the asinine idea there was nothing?
Questioner and Answerer have to define the nothing, or useless.

the universe EXPANDED 14 billion years ago. nobody has ever demonstrated that energy/matter can be or needs to be created.
Why does it always have to be a "who" with you guys?
