What type of reaction is shown in the following chemical equation: 2H2O ® 2H2 + O2?
A) decomposition
B) double–displacement
C) single–displacement

2H2O -> 2H2 + O2 is a decomposition reaction.
A decomposition reaction occurs when a large compound reacts and splits into one or more smaller compounds/elements.
Just follow the model AB -> A+B
It's like breaking apart a chemical lego spaceship.
Decomposition is always breaking apart. :)
A single-displacement response is where one aspect appears to maneuver out of 1 compound and into a different. This is mostly written as A + BX → AX + B this may occasionally arise if A is more reactive than B. A and B have to both be distinctive metals (hydrogen's behavior as a cation renders it as a metallic here), in which case X represents an anion. Nevertheless, A and B can also be halogens, where case X represents a cation. In either case, when AX and BX are aqueous compounds (which is frequently the case), X is a spectator ion. Due to the free state nature of A and B, all single displacement reactions are also oxidation-reduction reactions. When A and B are metals, A is at all times oxidized and B is invariably diminished. Because halogens select to gain electrons, A is diminished (from a zero to −1) and B is oxidized (from −1 to zero) when A and B characterize those factors. A and B won't have the same cost when ions are fashioned hence some balancing of the equation could also be critical. For illustration the response between silver nitrate (AgNO3) and zinc (Zn) types silver (Ag) and zinc nitrate (Zn(NO3)2). 2 AgNO3(aq) + Zn(s) → 2 Ag(s) + Zn(NO3)2(aq)
A) Decomposition
One product is reducing down into two or more products, basically you start with one "big" reactant and you end with multiple. it will ALWAYS be a decomp reaction
Synthesis is the ooppsoite where two or more reactants would be coming together
Displacement/replacement would require two or more reactants.
i would say its a decomposition because decomposition is
ab -> a + b and we got (assuming ® is ->) we got 2 molecules of h2o and at the end we have 2 molecules of h2 and one of o2 so we made a decompostion
