I'm researching a Japanese band for a project, and I have to give my presentation in Japanese. I know adding 'wo suru' at the end will turn it into a verb, but if I want to say "they formed a band", which word would be better in context?
If this helps, the exact sentence I want to say is "Gotou-san, Kita-san, and Yamada-san met in 1996 at a college music club, then formed a band." (Or for the second clause, something along those lines).

You should use "結成"
When people forms a organization or group, "結成する" is used.
ex.
form a band > バンドを結成する
form a union > 組合を結成する
establish a political organization > 政治団体を結成する
If you will google "バンドを形成", you will get tons of examples.
å½¢æ = a shape, formation, transformation; to shape into something, to form into something, to transform into something.
çµæ: çµ means "a knot" as a noun, and means "to bind" or "to tie" as a verb. çµæ would then be "to combine", "to tie" or "to bind" different types of things together.
To form a band, you use å½¢æ in Japanese and either å½¢æ or çµæ in Chinese.
