I think its worth a life. A woman is worth dying for. No amount of money is worth "taking" a womans body.
She still has her body, it is her mind and soul that has been brutalized in a way that cannot be reversed. I would find it very difficult, almost impossible, to put a price on mind and soul. Like the article says, it is far more important the perpetrators are punished than that the victim is compensated. I feel a better question would be, "How much is the reputation of Duke University worth?" I'm sure that's where they came up with their 2 mil figure.
As far as the value of 1 woman's body, I would think it would have the same value as 1 mans body, from what I've heard about $1.75 US if we sold the constituent chemicals, except for one chemical that is supposedly quite rare and the quantity in a human body is worth about $150,000.
Having worked manual labor jobs for most of my life, about $125,000 is the guaranteed payout to my family if my employer should kill me and my family can prove it. Most crappy airline insurance has similar payout structures (loss of an eye is worth about $10,000).
There are many perspectives one could take in attempting to valuate a human being, none would be truly accurate. It is a fallacy in our society that a monetary figure can be applied to such things. No amount of compensation could be sufficient for the victim.

No respectable newspaper would print such an allegation without independent second-party confirmation. The Wilmington Journal is acting irresponsibly by publishing the information.
