Hello,
I'm a freshman and I really want to wrestle for my highschool, but I know islam forbids men from showing their awra (between the navel and the knee). That isn't the major problem because i can always wear an elastic knee brace. But the uniforms are really tight, does islam forbid that? What do you think? I will be wearing a cup so it wouldn't be that bad? Please help. Thanks

in my poor opinion and limited knowledge, I believe it is wrong and makrooh since it may cause fitna to women watching and also to guys with sick hearts. You know, remember you are in a test and Allah is giving you a chance to pass that test and such temptation of following what you want (really want to wrestle for my highschool) it is what you want, so make sure that whatever you want will never come in the way of what Allah ordered us to do. Ask yourself, would Allah be pleased if I do it?
May Allahu guide us all
The male Awra is from the navel to the knee.
This means, anything that exposes the parts from the navel to the knee AND anything that exposes the figure(i.e. tight enough to see the figure) is forbidden.
@asker:
They need to respect your religion. If they do not allow you to wear what Islam asks you to wear is it really worth sacrificing Islam for? Is it worth sacrificing the Quraan for?
@FTL:
We do not follow people and do what people do, even if they are Muslim.
We follow the Quraan and do what it teaches.
hi sweetheart its good that ur so concerned.
but the real worry should be the sport of wrestling itself; according to sunnah such displays of unwarranted physical might does not show the strength of a man. it is very very animalistic.
think about your actions and then think will the prophet uwbp approve or do this? i tkink not
to be on safe side u should not go.
well u can enjoy another activity. i.e go to the gym to maintain ur body
@ Im blessed -
u shud follow Islamic law not ur nafs - just advicing u, sorry if it sounded harsh.
You might try talking to the coach about it. If he wants you on the team, he'll help you to participate without compromising your religion.
I think it is ok as long as it is not causing a great fitnah among the women or men that will be watching you.
How many Muslim wrestlers did we have in the olympics?
not to mention that wrestling is highly homoerotic.
"How many Muslim wrestlers did we have in the olympics?"
not sure, but I remember the Iron Sheik: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Sheik
try your best ,and Allah will bless you .
