Some years ago, I bought Pokémon Ruby. The cartridge didn't look anything like my friends cartridges, it was the normal GBA cartridge gray, not the special Ruby red.
Also the game was Sapphire not Ruby, although the cartridge clearly spells out RUBY. I did buy it at a shop, no internets back then. Also the battery has run dry a LONG time ago, but today i decided to try to replace it...

There are two possibilities for that kind of cartridge.
Either it's a mistake of the manufacturers (not likely although) or it was a pirated copy that someone created, then sold to the store you bought it from (I've seen many of those copies in Second hand stores. I've often wondered how the people get away with it and why the store accepted it).
Also, you should just connect your cartridge to a FireRed, LeafGreen or Emerald and get the patch from them (it's a lot easer than replacing the battery and is a permanent solution). ;)
