1) Most prayer is done in silence, without moving one's lips, it is not out loud, therefore no one would know you are doing it.
2) Most prayer is done when a person is alone, NOT in a group or in public.
3) Prayer is found in MANY faiths and came from a time before "political correctness" when society was much less tolerant of the mentally ill, therefore, it doesn't make sense that prayer would be specifically developed simply as a way to make crazy people feel 'better' about themselves.
4) Prayer comes from many belief systems and therefore we KNOW the purpose of it in those faiths and it is NOT or was never thought to be for the purpose of making crazy people seem more sane.
5) the english word for Prayer comes from the Greek "precari" which means 'a sincere petition' - NOT 'cover up crazy' So the word origin portrays a different purpose.
Bluntly put, yes. Since the masses believe and all "pray", that term explains exactly what they do when dropping to their knees and talking to themselves.
I'm all for it if it makes them a better person and keep it to themselves.
