If by "plug stops working" you mean that something plugged into the wall gets no power, I would look at the possibility that one or more wires in the plug came loose from the plug assembly. It happened to me about six months ago, probably caused by vibration and an old plug assembly.
The circuit breaker may be half tripped, some are not obvious. Turn it off then back on. Check the wires on it and see of it has power to the wires. If not replace the breaker. If it does go to the socket and see if there is power to it. If needed replace the socket.
Lots of good advice from others already. It could also be a bad circuit breaker. I replaced on for a friend recently. An entire bedroom was without power. There was corrosion around the terminals, and the breaker itself was faulty. Cleaned off contact and replaced breaker, and he was good to go.
Any of a number of things. Get a voltmeter and take the cover off the outlet. Check to see if 110 volts reaches the outlet. If so replace it (turn off the circuit breaker).
If not check at the circuit beakers, if may be bad, if so replace it.
If not call in an electrician, there may be a broken wire somewhere.

A loose connection may be the reason.
The plug may have gone "bad", burnt contacts or loose wire(s).

This is not a question about mathematics. It needs moving to a category like

The outlet may have a loose or broken wire. They do wear out too.
Take off the cover. Using a multimeter check for voltage to the wire going to the outlet.
Or turn off the breaker and replace the outlet. They cost $2.
If the plug has a fuse in it check that.
Fuse in the plug has blown?
