No. That's a fairly moderate calorie restriction, compared to a normal diet, and since you are extremely overweight it's in your interest to restrict more heavily so you lose weight quickly. It's only with very low calorie diets (1000 or less) that you should have medical supervision to make sure you still get the required nutrients, and even then that's only when you maintain that for an extended period. The new version of the 5:2 diet has you restrict to 800 calories every day for two weeks, then on two days out of five. You might want to give that a go since you might find it easier to stick to. Calorie counting every day for a long time tends to get tedious.
Yes it is insane, you are a man and 1200 calories is far too low, in fact it’s too low for anyone unless you’re a sedentary female and a medical professional is supervising it to make sure you get adequate nutrients.
You are going to end up either extremely unwell or extremely hungry and neither will give you the results you want, heavier people burn more calories too by the way so you could lose weight on 2500 a day especially if you throw in some moderate activity.
My husband tried 1600, lost weight and gained it all back again but when he tried 2200 he lost it and then got fed up with calorie counting and just used portion control and that worked very well.
You are also not immune from developing an eating disorder, they can affect anyone and although the chances are relatively low as someone who has one and is consistently battling with recovery I can tell you they are hell to live with.

No. This is how weight loss occurs.. by burning more calories than you consume.

Not really. Exercise as well.
Sounds like a good idea to me. Better than a heart attack.
