Did he never _really_ believe?
Or could it be that the Holy Spirit™ doesn't quite work the way you think it does?
(Or doesn't exist, but that's a boring conclusion.)
Update:This concludes today's Christian Badgering Q&A Session™. Please return sometime in the future for more poorly-formulated questions, and amusing answers.

That doesn't happen. If someone believes in the Holy Spirit and does all those things, they believe they recieve it.
Y'know, atheism has many arguments going for it, but in each of your questions you seem to have missed every single one. Effectively your question is "What if Christians weren't actually Christians.
You're the worst atheist ever.
Do you truly know what it is the Holy Ghost is suppose to do, how can the Holy Ghost do what Jesus said He would do, if you don't even know how many commandments Jesus actually spoke.
In John 14:26 Jesus said that the Holy Ghost would bring to you every word that Jesus spoke when he walked the earth, and that the only job of the Holy Ghost was to bring you the actual words just as spoken by Jesus and Jesus only.
Christians say and believe that every word spoken within the bible was inspired by God, but Jesus told that only His words were the TRUE words of God the Father (John 12:49-50)
Jesus told you not to allow men or the churches teach you anything about God the Father, heaven or earth.
Jesus told you to allow ONLY the Holy Ghost to TEACH you, but because you went against the words of God the Father as given to us by Jesus and allowed men, women and the churches to teach you, Jesus will never send the Spirit of Truth to you, and it is the Spirit of Truth that gives you an unlimited understanding of the words Jesus spoke.
Jesus said I have told you about everything concerning heaven and earth, the way things have been since before God the Father "created" His "Utterance" (word) through the 7 seals, how long they were, when each began and each ended, and when the world will come to an end, but because you believe that every word in the bible was given by God and refuse to keep the TRUE Commandments of God your Father, it is you, yourself who has choose to do this, therefore when you are called back to heaven do not cry or grit your teeth when you are cast out.
Not everyone can receive the holy spirit only those that do the will of the father (Jehovah). Matthew 7:21-23
Yes he really believed, but what he asked for isn't necessarily what the Holy Spirit had in mind for him, and isn't what the Holy Spirit wanted to give him
we must come to Jesus through faith in his completed work at the cross, then we are raised to life then we have God the father, God the son and God the holy spirit these are three different person's in one God head. the all work together but have different function in one God head. it is the holy spirit job to reveal truth to us as we study scripture if we depend on him to do so.
Then they believe the failing lies with them and hate themselves for it.
God said,, "Ask and you shall receive!" (Where is your Trust and Faith at that awesome 'time'?) Former Atheist. <')))><
