So here’s the deal, I had a balance of $820 left on my car and the finance company for told me they would settle my full amount from for $420. I had to fulfill the contract by May 29th2009 in order for it to be valid. I sent in my payment through mail on May 25th, 2009 which was Memorial Day so it didn’t go out until the 26th so it didn’t make it by the 29th. On the 29th however, I made a transfer through Western Union which settled my full amount. Now, on the 1st of June, 2009, they received the original payment that I had mailed which was the overpayment. Today I spoke to the supervisor who was going to take care of this but she told me she didn’t know what happened to the payment or if they can even refund my money because apparently they keep it so is there anything I can do under law?

Too complicated. Get a checking account already. You should have the receipt as proof of payment. You did keep the copy from the Western Union right? They're just messing with you . I guarantee you are not going to have this car paid off with $420. They suckered you. Do you have the deal in writing? Let me guess......no. Live and learn. Get it, you sent 1/2, they say they can't find it, you send it again, they have 100% payment. GOTCHA!
I'm not sure but if you call a lawyer they'll probably be able to answer that for you over the phone. If you paid by money order they can track it by the stub. They will even be able to show you a copy of the money order if it was ever cashed. If you paid by any other method it should be traceable as well...Please say you didn't send cash..I had my landlord say I was 800 dollars short on rent before and since I paid with a money order I had it traced and it turned out they credited my payment to another apartment!!! The other apartment was written on the money order copy and they fixed the problem..Always keep your receipts! ;)
