Xeon processors are designed for server and workstation operations, and Core i7's are highend processors that are used for moderate to extreme computing, such as graphic designers, multimedia publishing, gaming, etc. Intel Xeon has a longer lifespan, with the first generations released in 1998. The first Core i7 was released in Q3 - 2008.
Technically it after the Core i7 line debut but the xeon is only a mobile processor so if you were looking to compare them to buy, that wouldn't really be a valid comparison.
