I offered to pay for everything because I've been saving up. The only thing that is wrong is my mom isn't a huge fan of rodents andshe thinks that it will smell. I assured her that they are very cute and have a good attitude and that I would clean the cage out. But it's not working. I want one by the end of the summer or the year. My bday is sunday and I don't really pester her about a hamster. Please HELP!!!!

hamsters can stink. my sisters stink terribly. this is ONLY because she has 2 cages in her room and has at least 4 hamsters in the one.(other is empty) she isn't always here so it ends up not being cleaned for awhile and it will most definitely stink if you don't clean it at least once a week or every two weeks. i had my own hamsters before, and no, just it in it's cage by itself and cleaning in monthly kept it very clean and it didn't stink at all. out of all the rodents you're wanting, she should be glad that it is a cute little hamster instead of a rat. hamsters are also not really that expensive, and besides changing the bedding, feeding them and watering them and doing whole cage clean downs every so often, they really aren't that hard to take care of. they are good pets for first time pet owners. hamsters are cheap, cute, and easy to care for. you should ask her to trust you just this once with the responsibility of owning your own pet and say how it will prove your maturity!
honestly you sound just like me ive had a few. i was younger than so it was easier. but when i was like 14 i just bought it home, that probably wouldnt work. tell her you promise to clean twice week at the most you can also bathe them and brush them and they have wipes. also get a dwarf hamster theyre smaller and would make less problems if that dont work just bring your furry friend home she cant really do anything bout it then :)
