Hello, everyone. I am a Protestant convert to Roman Catholicism. I would like my Confirmation name to be María Fátima with Our Lady of Fátima as my patron saint.
How are Confirmation names used today? Is it on a record somewhere? Will people at church call me by my Confirmation name?
Thank you and God bless!
Update:I am choosing a Confirmation name because I was not given the name of a saint at birth. I also would just like to have one.

Essentially the new name is to signify that you are no longer a Christian child, but rather able and willing to take your adult position in the Church. It is kept on record at the Church where you are Confirmed, but they really are not used. They are more like a reminder for you of the qualities of your saint and the reasons you chose the name.
They are typically forgotten like the names of elementary school classmates. Naming yourself is a ritual of asserting your independence and control of your own destiny. It is telling the Christian community that your initiation is complete.
It will not be used, except by a yourself or a very religious person to celebrate the feast day of the saint you are named after.
UPDATE: More often celebrated is the feast day of the saint whose name you are given at baptism. Because you do not have a saint name you will do well celebrating this feast day. The feast day of Maria, Nuestra Señora de Fátima is May 13th in the USA. You share this by saying, "My saint day is May 13th"
You typically take the name of the relative who covers you though the ceremony. If Aunt Mary does, and you are Joan may Smith, you become Joan May Mary Smith. All in all, it doesn't really matter or change your day to day, but if it matters to you, it matters.
What you're standing up against is your minster's opinions. They can or can not file the paper work. That is as subjective as anything else in life.
It is on record, and will appear on your Confirmation certificate. No-one will call you by that name. In fact, no-one will know it unless you choose to tell them.

you are known and called by your first name , not your confirmation name , unless of course you wish to be called Maria

If you are a true Christian, get out of that cult.
