Can someone help with this problem. (3x + 5)² = 6?
solve equation by method of choice. I have gotten two many different answers from other people, and I cant figure out who or what way is correct. Thanks
to do this, you will need to know the quadratic equation.
First, you make it 3x(squared)+25=6
Next, 3x(squared)+25-6=0
You then do the product-sum method where -18 is the product and 25 is the sum. You then figure out that you cannot solve this using the product-sum method, lol
This means that you need to use the quadratic equation(x= -b plus or minus the square root of 4ac divided by two.

Simple & Easy.
We use [(a+b)] ^2 = a^2 + 2 ab + b^2 formula & then factorize the resultant expression.
(3x + 5)^ 2 - 6 = 0
=> (9 x^2 + 30 x + 25) - 6 = 0
=> 9 x^2 + 30 x +19 = 0.
Using the Formula
[ - b + / - Sq,Rt. of (b^2 - 4 ac)] whole divided by 2a.
where a = + 9, b = +30 & c = +19
Another simple method using the formula
(a^2 - b^2) = (a+b) * ( a -b)
(3x + 5 ) ^ 2 - 6
= ( 3x + 5 ) ^2 - (root 6) ^2
= ( 3x + 5 + sq.rt of 6 ) ( 3x + 5 - sq.rt. of 6) = 0
Either 3x + 5 + sq. rt.6 = 0
=> 3x = -(5 - sq.root 6)
=> x = -[(5 - sq.rt 6)] / 3 .... Answer 1.
or 3x + 5 - sq.rt. 6 = 0
=> 3x = -5 + sq.rt. 6 = 0
=> x = [-5 + sq.rt6 ]
=> x = - [ 5 - sq.rt. 6] ... Answer 2.
x = - ( 5 + sq.rt. 6) or - ( 5 - sq.rt. 6) Answer.
Substitute the value of sq.rt. 6 & find the answer correct to places of decimals you require.
Sq. rt of 6 = 2.45 Correct to 2 places of decimals.
So x = - 7.45 or -2.55. Answer
Hope this helps.

Sorry I couldn't write in the characters.
Hope it helps
(3x + 5)² = 6. Squaring,
9x² + 30x + 25 = 6. Adding -6,
9x² + 30x + 19 = 0. Using the quadratic formula,
x = {-(30) ± â[(30)² - 4(9)(19)]} / 2(9)
x = {-30 ± â[900 - 684]} / 18
x = {-30 ± â216} / 18
x = {-30 ± (â36)(â6)} / 18
x = {-30 ± 6(â6)} / 18
x = {-5 ± â6} / 3
This method works, but Kemmy's way is quicker.
(3x+5)^2=6
let's try method one first
(3x+5)^2=6
(3x+5)(3x+5)=6
9x^2+15x+15x+25=6
9x^2+30x-19=0
using the quadratical equation...
a=9
b=30
c=19
since the only factors of c are (1,19) and (-1, -19) and neither of those factors added together give you 30 we need to go another route
(3x+5)^2=6
square root both sides so
3x+5=square root of 6
3x=(square root of 6) -5
x= [(square root of 6)-5]/3
x=[2.449489743-5]/3
x=-2.550510257/3
x=-0.850170085
now since the square root of 6 is also -2.449489743
x=[-2.449489743-5]/3
x=-7.449489743/3
x=-2.483163248
so x = -0.8502 as well as x = - 2.4832
important note: never round off until you get to your final answer.
(3x + 5)² = 6
3x+5 = sqrt6
x = (sqrt6 - 5) / 3
x = -0.850, -2.483
