Nora Roberts specializes in romance suspense books, but she's also written a few fantasy books under the pen name J.D Robb. I actually think one of her novels was about firefighters, a book called Chasing Fire. Haven't read it, though.

Montana Sky by Nora Roberts is a suspense story with romance. It might be too gore for some people, there are few part when I just had to stop reading for a while. Though I was quite young when I read this book. The story starts when three sisters (who haven't met before) inherit a ranch.

I also think you could enjoy Sophie Kinsella and Cecelia Ahern's novels. They're more like light, romantic, funny and cuddly kind of books.

Charlaine Harris has written the Sookie Stackhouse novels (also known as the TV-show True Blood). You might like it. Personally, I found Sookie too annoying, couldn't read the books since they were from her point of view.
