Writing polynomials as a product of linear factors..? x³ + 3x²?

My Equation is:

(sorry I dont know how to do x cubed on my computer)

X^4+5x²-36

I'm thinking I would break it up into:

x^4+9x-4x-36 which would be further broken up into:

x(x³+9)-4(x-9)

Is that even how you would go about solving that sort of problem? And if so, how would I finish it? If it's not what did I do wrong and how what I solve it instead?
