When a router receives a packet, it first looks up the learned or pre-configured route(s) in it's routing table. If the route(s) exist in the routing table, the packet is forwarded. If the route does not exist within the routing table, the router will forward the packets to the default gateway configured, and this process described is repeated at the default gateway.

I don't normally answer homework, but it is most likely "routing table". It looks up the network associated with the ip in the route table; the ips aren't in the route table.
