Why can't x³+1 be factored?
Can someone please explain to me why x³+1 cannot be factored? Why wouldn't it be:
x³+1=
x³+1³=
(x+1)(x²-x+1)
My math book says it cannot be factored, and I just don't understand why.

I think it is because of the "+" sign. It needs to be a "-" sign to be factored.
It cannot be further factored but what you just did was simplification of the polynomial...get it?...it's not factorization but simplification of an already factorized polynomial...

x^2 + y^2 + 2xy can be factorized into (x+y)^2...or this is how i understand it...
