Whats the difference between "поезд" and "поезде"?
Or "это" and "этот" for that matter. I'm writing a postcard to a Russian friend, and these were a couple of words I used. I would have just written "моя бабушка и я шли в ПОЕЗД" and "ЕТО поезд....". But the Google Translator I was using to help me, said it should be "поезде" and "этот". If this is right, why do we write it that way? (I don't understand much about Russian grammar.)
Update:Haha! I just realized I accidently said "ETO" instead of "ЭТО". Sorry, I meant the latter.

because "моя бабушка и я шли в ПОЕЗД" doesn't make much sense (were you walking to the train or inside the train or entered the train or what?)

that will take a book... in short - nouns have 6 cases, endings differ according to the case.
"rode on the train" - ехали в поезде, so "моя бабушка и я ехали в поезде"
это or этот depends on what you want to say too.
