The French equivalent is "connaître" :
Je connais M. Martin, qui connaît Paris.
Connaìtre. I guess you are bothered about translating "know", but most languages make the same distinction (German wissen and koennen, Dutch witen and kennen). Even English until the 16th century distinguished between "to know" and "to wit".where the first was concerned with acquaintanceship and the latter with wisdom, as in Sr. Rodrigues knows Ribeirâo Preto but wits not that it lies in the state of São Paulo.
Je connais un français que connait bien la ville de Montréal mais il ne sait pas qu'elle se trouve dans la province de Quebec.
Hello and "Bonjour" from Toulouse, France !
Io conosco il signor Bresciani chi conosce Miliano.
(I know Mr. Bresciani who is familiar with Milan.)
the translation is:
Je connais Monsieur (Mr.) Bresciani qui connait Milan
verb is: connaître
je connais, tu connais, il connait, nous connaissons, vous connaissez, ils ou elles connaissent !
Ciao !
