What is so hard about writing a series. I want love my characters so I don’t want to stop with one novel.?
I am done with my first book. i think its a little easier when its the same main plot and characters so i want to write a series.

While writing for the second book of the series is easier since you have the theme and characters planned out sometimes it's hard writing a fresh story without feeling too much of the first book so some authors usually write other books first.When the think they have a good idea for the second book then they write it and after all what is the use writing a sequel to a great book if the it wouldn't be good.
The glow from writing that novel will be terrific. You'll walk around with a swelled head for weeks. But eventually the glow will dim. The rush will go away. And a void appears in your life. After all, you gave that novel the best years of your life. What do you do next?
Simple. Start another novel! Keep the writer's high going.
Come up with another conflict, otherwise you won't be able to make another novel. If you can't think of a conflict, you may have to sadly move on. For now at least.
