Choose the correct answer: a Solar cells will continue
to decrease in price.
b Hydroelectric dams will
crumble and be unusable.
c Increasing amounts of
sunlight will shine across
the world.

The price of oil will increase without any hope of ever going down again.
This is the only event that would cause a sudden increase in interest in solar power.
Also, all the things you describe already ARE use of solar power.
Hydroelectric dams exist only because Earth has a "water cycle" whereby the Sun causes evaporation, such that rain can then fall on high grounds (mountains) and collect itself into rivers as it falls back down towards the ocean. No sun = no hydroelectric dams.
Wind is the result of heat (from the Sun) trying to redistribute itself over the planet. No sunlight = no wind.
Fossil fuels themselves are the result of plants living a long time ago. They grew because they got their energy from the Sun (photosynthesis). Even burning coal is a (delayed) use of solar energy.
The only source of energy that is independent from the Sun is nuclear fission. Uranium-238 was already present in the original cloud of gas and dust that collapsed to form the Solar system. That cloud contained elements forged by earlier supernova explosions. There is no other natural mechanism to form Uranium-238.
By including your update YOU LIMIT increasing the use of solar power. IGNORE those conditions.
DEMAND is what will increase use of Solar.

EVERY Church congregation should Demand solar panels on their property. THINK about it; in a
City of 200,000 residents there are HOW MANY Churches? SIX DAYS a week they are essentially
EMPTY so the "Loving, Caring, Tolerant God FEARING" Congregants should get Solar Panels there
that the CITY can use Electricity from; that's Kilowatts or Megawatts that have a ONE TIME PRICE
that the City won't have to include every Month, or Fiscal Quarter or Fiscal Year PAYING the
Electric Company!
, ,
EVERY School District Parent Teacher Association (PTA) should be DEMANDING Solar Panels on
the THOUSANDS of School buildings in the US for the same reason. SUMMER Break averages
90 DAYS when the Sun shines ON EMPTY BUILDINGS. Supply that ELECTRICITY to the City
or Community and ONE QUARTER of every yearly budget is LESS; add in weekends and Winter
Holidays and Spring Break >> and more days of Empty Buildings REDUCE the Community
Electric Bill!

In appropriate areas ADD Wind Turbines >> BUT NOT Huge bladed Tower type. Those are
Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWT) considered "windmills". The OTHER version are Vertical Axis
Wind Turbines (VAWT). VAWTs don't need HUNDRED or Two Hundred foot towers. The LARGEST
building at most schools is the Auditorium. Strengthen the structure to support a VAWT at the
corners of each roof. The output will vary by wind conditions but consider this; PARIS France put
EIGHT VAWTs on the Eiffel Tower because the wind ALWAYS BLOWS through and now it lights
itself! Look at the Golden Gate Bridge; right off I can SEE three cross-spans on each tower that can
support SIX VAWTs; once in place San Francisco Taxpayers get their CITY electric bill CUT! The
Bay-Bridge and the rest of the Bay suspension bridges the same thing.

NYC just completed the WTC Freedom Tower; did ANYONE consider including Solar Energy in all
those windows?!
, ,
GO TO YOUR nearest window with "Venetian Blinds". Flex one of the slats: INSIDE each Solar
Panel the Photovoltaic material that Collects sunlight isn't much heavier than that. There are ALSO
Photovoltaic "films" that generate electricity from Sunshine that weigh LESS. They're similar to
Car window tinting material. PUT THAT inside YOUR windows; Put That in EVERY School window!
The students aren't supposed to be looking out anyway!
Not b - hydroelectric shouldn't be called "green", they are terrible for the surrounding area. To make the concrete, you have to cook limestone and release loads of CO2, and it'll be a long time before you break even carbon-wise. And if you're far from a river, most of your electricity will be lost along the transmission lines.
Not c - if the sun gets brighter, we'll have bigger problems anyway.
Not d - wind turbines are not that loud. You want them in the middle of an open field, anyway. But they are very high maintenance.
So a - the price is decreasing, and the efficiency is increasing.
a Solar cells will continue to decrease in price.
That is the only correct answer.
The other answers are all false.
As technology improves, solar panels will become more efficient.
and ...
as more people buy solar panels, mass production will drive prices down.
The same thing happens to all new technology.
eg TV sets were very expensive when TV was invented - now inexpensive (unless you want a 3 foot wide screen)
and ...
the new LED light globes -- price is coming down on those as well.
Price and a conversion to 12 or 24 DC volt supply for most electronics. My computer is running on 19 volts, my TV about the same, lights could run on that if they were LED , Fridge had a twelve volt one in my trailer. Cheap solar panels and batteries about the same as those that come in cars and I could be self sufficient. It would save a lot of energy just in transmission costs.
Huge government incentives, that last more than a few years. That is a. except the cells are less than half the cost of most solar cell installations.
c. might work if we install
huge solar mirrors in space that reflect only the wave lengths most useful for the pv cells = photovoltaic cells, other wise much of Earth would sometimes be dangerously hot.
Well there are a number of falsehoods there.
Dams last
Solar output is stable
Wind turbines are getting quieter
By default the changer is the drop in price of cells
None of your selections, solar will only increase when there is a practicable economic means of storing electricity.
Lack of electric power
It's a.
