If you can really afford to give away $500 to a charity, then go and meet the girl's mother in the hospital and find out what her situation is. When the bills start coming after the insurance has paid their part, ask for some of the bills (whatever amount you are willing to pay), including the mail-in envelopes, and then make the payment directly to the hospital or physicians (checking with them first, just to make sure the "bill" wasn't created in Photoshop). .. On the other hand, if you are not well-to-do, simply tell her you are living paycheck to paycheck (like most people) and cannot afford to help her mother, financially. Offer to help get her home clean and ready for her once she is released, or to pick her up from the hospital, or driver her to appointments, for example.
There are plenty of scams like that around. Once she knows you're good for $500, she'll ask for $1,000 and keep going until you stop paying - then she'll find another victim. BTW my cat needs a wooden leg, please send $5,000.
Sometimes trusting too much is bad. You need to make sure first if she was telling the truth but if not then you better stop texting him.She just wanted to fool you.
I have been a victim before by that kind of persons. :(
