They shouldn't even be getting wages in the first place. Any and all work they do should be simply considered part of their punishment and part of their payment for their room, food, and health care.
In a way they already pay for being locked up. Prisoners are given jobs by the prison service for outside companies to do within the prison. These jobs range from building light bulbs to work within an on site greenhouse. Inmates are working about a 20 hour week and get £10 as pay, the rest of the wage from the companies goes back to the prison. Any money not spent on release they are gave to help with finding accommodation. I think this a good thing as it gives them the incentive to continue working on their release.

Kind of hard to do considering most don't make any money and those that do average less than a dollar a day.
If you don't feel like paying for them. Then quit insisting on locking people up for idiotic things.
With more and more laws coming out all the time criminalizing everything all we can do is lock them up.
Yes they should pay for everything. I just think they do not work hard enough. I still have cracks on the road infront of my house.....fix them.
