I guess my question besides solving those two above problems is are the added and subtracted terms under a radical, or beginning a new one? Perhaps that sounds confusing but if someone explained solving both these problems I think it would clarify that for me...Thanks so much!

They are the beginning of a new term. I'll demo the 2nd one:
(2√y-3)(√y+2)
2√y x √y + 2√y x 2 - 3 x √y - 3 x 2
2y + 4√y - 3√y - 6
2y + √y - 6

√3 x √3 is just 3 cause it's √3 squared.
-2√15.
so the answer is just 3-2√15 cause √15 can't be simplified any more.
the second one is 2y+4√y-3√y-6.
2y+√y-6.
