It depends on the nature of your job. If it is a simple job (such as pushing a broom) that a new person can pick up in an hour, then 2 weeks' notice will suffice.
But for more complex jobs, it CAN take 6 months of YOU training the person to replace you. In which case your employer will need at least 3 months just to FIND someone to replace you .. plus the 6 months for you to train them.
Of course, if you are never going to work again, then you can be selfish and leave your employer in the lurch and just walk out. But you are better than that, aren't you?
