a. (2)
b. (-4)
c. (2, -4)
d. (Ø)
Answer to the question (c)
Sqrt(8-2x) = x
Square up both sides
8 - 2x = x^2
x^2 + 2x - 8 = 0
x^2 + 4x - 2x - 8 = 0
x(x+4) - 2 (x+4) = 0
(x+4) (x-2) = 0
When x+4 = 0, x = - 4
When x-2 = 0, x = 2
â8 - 2x = x
â8 = x+2x
â8 = 3x
x = â8/3
x = 2â2/3
Answer -> C
squaring on both sides:
x^2 -2x + 4x - 8 = 0
x(x - 2) + 4(x - 2) = 0
x - 2)(x + 4) = 0
:. x = 2 and -4
the answer can only be 2. -4 doesnt work because you end up with 4= -4. when x=2 you end up with (square root of 4)=2
â(8-2x) = x
square both sides of equation
8-2x = x²
x² + 2x - 8 = 0
factor
(x+4)(x-2) = 0
x = -4, 2
Combine like terms, and solve for X.
I can't tell if the square root is supposed to cover the whole left side or not. If so, just square the right side to get rid of the square root.
i.e. 8-2x = x^2
Then solve for x
answer is simply c..just did it
