When speaking Spanish, should I address a female in her twenties whom I know to be an unmarried mother that is raising her young child alone as señora or señorita?
If I'm addressing a female and I have no information to provide me with a clue as to what she would prefer, is it safer (less offensive should a wrong choice be made) to use señora or señorita? Or does the answer depend on the woman's age and/or social class?
Or is doña a safer choice in most situations?

I had a colleague in this position years ago who insisted on being addressed as if she were a married woman. While in Spanish it is politer to say señorita when not sure of a person's marital status, as it sounds younger, in this case I believe that señora would be more discreet.
we even have that problem (spanish people), but you should write señorita for a young woman (before 30 years old) , and señora for an old woman (after 30 years old)
If they're married say señora, if single say señorita, and generally if you don't know say señora. If they're young though, like twenties, and you don't know it's say to say señorita.
Well, actually if you address to a certain lady a (senorita) you are reffering a young lady.If the older or middle age lady or married lady most people will call (senora). But if you are young married woman or single a middle age woman it's up to you to correct or tell the person your status so they can call you what the appropriate address they call.
