Representitve Democracy to Capitalist Democracy to ? to ruin
(This is just based on that all countries will eventually fall)
While we are in many ways the New Rome we will not follow thier footsteps in decline
When America does decline (50yrs? 5000yrs? Who knows) it will be in a completly new way and for different reasons.
I dont think we will have to worry about Canada sacking DC though ;)
I hope that when America is no longer a Nation its because we have then evolved past nations and celebrate all being humans (to do this we might need a Alien species we hate more than ourselves)
Rome was an empire which voluntarily divided in two in the fourth century. The western half fell to barbarians in the fifth century and the eastern half to the Turks in the fifteenth century.
The United States is a republic which is changing from an isolationist nation to the most powerful nation in a world in which events in every part of it affect events in every other part.
The challenge faced by the United States is to keep our economic and military strength under these new conditions. We do not have to worry about invasion. We do have to be careful not to create economic conditions which further devalue the dollar. Devaluation of the currency was a major cause of the fall of Rome in the West.
We need to create international unity in the West to prevent Europe from falling to Islam due to demographic changes.
A much more pertinent questions is whether Europe is following in the footsteps of the decline of the Western Roman Empire. One could make a very good case that it is. The Euro is even more structurally unsound than the dollar and the Europeans of Christian heritage seem to be abandoning their culture. If their culture falls, it will be replaced by the Islamic one which has been fighting it since the eighth century.
Spain was not united under Christian monarchs until 1492. In fact, the Muslims had advanced well into France at one point. In 1683 Vienna almost fell to the Turks. Today Muslim majorities control local governments in several important European cities.
It seems to be. But in a bit of a different way.. The US is THE capitalist country of the world. Capitalism can only last as long as they can continually 'grow' - but as we see.. this is basically a 'pyramid' scheme. It just can't last.
We just cannot 'grow' enough, or fast enough.. to satisfy their voracious appetite. It is really, exactly like any other pyramid scam. Too bad for us, but those that have bloated themselves with $$$ can sail off to Dubai - the 'World' : http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=...
