Only tasks like that where every bit of cpu is consumed for long periods of time justify buying the highest end processor. Most users will be just as happy with a fast dual core i5 in their laptop. The difference between 5% and 10% cpu loading is insignificant from a user viewpoint. It's only when you max the processor out, and keep it that way for long periods of time, that you really appreciate the extra cores and speed.

My "Hand-Me-Down" Q9450 works well enough for me...

3.0gb GT 555M is no faster then a 1gb GT 555M.
