He has to remove old door ,rebate the hinges and hang new door then trim to fit, mark out , drill and chisel door for lock making sure key hole lines up, rebate door jam and line up for the keep. This is a skilled man not someone who sweeps up at Mc Donald's or slaps ingredients on a pizza base and cooks for 5 Min's he also has to cover running a vehicle ,travel to job buy tools have liability insurance etc etc etc. Each door must hang true and hinges etc be flush and neat, now ask yourself if £ 25.00 per door is reasonable because I do and I'm not a joiner.
I live in lincolnshire and have just had 12 doors hung at a new build, joiner on a day rate of £120 PER DAY will easily fit 10 doors in a day, especially in todays climate should have no problem, but dont ask for a price per door ask for day rate price and say you have a days work for them , even if you pay 150 for the day you still saving money ....and the joiner is getting good money for a days work no materials
Im a carpenter , and 25 pounds a door is very cheap by london standards , if hes fiting handles and furnishings thats a bargin as a carpenters usual wage will be about 130-200 a day and hanging ten doors with furnishings will almost certainly take a couple of days if not more
The price you are being charged is very cheap,I have no doubt he is giving you a discount due to the number on average it takes 2/3 hours to fit furniture and hang a door. This works out at £10 per hour for a self employed person this is not enough. You should grab him & kiss him and do not let him know you didn't trust him.
Hmm when i read the first line of this i thought 25 sounds okay. For one door it would seem reasonable but for 10 doors@ 25 each that seems a bit steep - no infact horrendous! what's he doing making the doors from fresh planks of wood???????
